Frequently Asked Questions:

We've put together some of the questions which have been asked on a few occasions this year and hope that you'll find the answers useful. If there is anything we haven't covered please feel free to use the contact form on the Contact Us page and we'll reply as quickly as we can.

  • Can I charge my electric car whilst staying at Meadowview Cottages?
Yes! We've just installed our first EV charging point for your electric car, it uses the Voltshare app and allows you to charge your car whilst staying with us. The charger is a 7kW charger and is untethered so you'll need to make sure you've got your charging cable with you, however the app and setup process are really straightforward.
  • Do you charge guests to charge their EV?
Yes, we do, however our tariff is very competitive at 50p/kWhr.
  • Can I bring my dog with me on holiday?
Unfortunately we can't allow any pets to stay in the holiday cottages during your stay. We have a number of working dogs and cats on the farm who love to meet our guests however it can upset them if other dogs/cats/hamsters etc are staying in the cottages. We've therefore had to introduce a no pets policy at Meadowview Cottages.
  • Do you only take bookings from Saturday to Saturday?
Our standard booking week runs from Saturday to Saturday however we appreciate a lot of guests would prefer to arrive and depart on different days. We’ll always try to accommodate this as we appreciate flights etc can dictate travel plans so please contact us to discuss your requirements.
  • What are the arrival and departure times at the cottages?
We welcome guests from 4pm on the day of arrival but will try to accommodate earlier arrival times if possible. Departure is by 10am although in some instances we may be able to extend this too. In both instances please contact us to discuss arrangements beforehand.
  • Could I leave my luggage at Meadowview Cottages before 4pm?
If you’d like to drop luggage at the farm before 4pm we’re happy to look after it for you until the cottage is available. Please contact us in advance to arrange this so that we know you'll be arriving early.
  • Can you provide directions to the holiday cottages?
Most sat navs can now find our cottages (although occasionally they give up about half a mile away) as the postcode is unique to our farm, however we have written directions that we can email to you upon request too. You could also try the Google map which appears on our business accommodation page; if you put your departure address in to the box and click Map It! a new window will open with directions to our cottages.
  • Can I arrange for a supermarket delivery to be delivered before I arrive?
This is quite a common request and we’re happy to accept food deliveries after 10am on the day of arrival. The delivery will be straight to your cottage and we’ll make sure fridge and freezer items are stored correctly. We will also accept any substitutions within the delivery on your behalf.
  • Do I need to bring bed linen and towels with me?
At Meadowview Cottages we aim to provide everything you could need for your stay and so beds are made, towels are provided, and all heating, lighting and electricity are included within the cottage rental charge. Please let us know if you would like cots or highchairs etc too.
  • Do you offer a linen service or cleaning service whilst we stay with you?
The holiday cottages are let on a self catering basis and we hope you’ll feel at home whilst staying with us. We provide washing machines, tumble dryers and vacuum cleaners in the cottages but we don’t operate these for you! We’ll also try to avoid the need to access the cottages during your stay so any disruption to your holiday is kept to a minimum.
  • Can I use EU or US electrical equipment in the cottages?
Plug adapters can be used in the cottages however please keep in mind that the UK electrical supply is 230 volts (50hz), whereas US supplies are 120 volts (60hz). Due to historic generation specifications UK voltage can sometimes exceed EU specifications and so guests use non-UK specified equipment at their own risk.
  • Will I be warm enough in the cottages?
Our holiday cottages and farmhouse have heating and hot water provided by a ground source heat pump (GSHP - see our blog for details) and district heating system. The system is more reliable than our old oil-fired boilers and will keep you lovely and warm during your stay. The Coach House also has a wood burning stove; you won't need to light this to keep the cottage warm but it does create a really cosy atmosphere in winter. Wood is provided free of charge during your stay.
  • Can we have a party/large family get together at Meadowview Cottages?
Within reason!! We have hosted family wedding celebrations and barbecues before and we have ample parking for additional guests. Please ask us beforehand if you would like to organise something similar as we have to take in to account other cottage guests and our farm animals. We don't accept bookings for stag and hen parties.
  • Can we use fireworks or sky lanterns at Meadowview Cottages?
No. There are too many fire hazards as well as farm animals living on site for us to allow guests to have firework displays or release sky lanterns at the cottages or elsewhere on the farm.
  • Can I fly my drone (UAV) at Meadowview Cottages?
No. We’ve found that our animals are quite frightened by drones and we also value our privacy, as well as that of our other guests. For this reason we don’t allow guests to operate drones (UAV’s) anywhere on the farm.
  • Can I fish in the lakes at Perkins Lodge Farm?
We no longer offer fishing to guests as our fish stocks have become depleted due to flooding and predation by mink. There are however some excellent local fisheries offering superb fishing within a few miles of the holiday cottages which we are happy to recommend to you.
  • Can we look around the farm when we stay at Meadowview Cottages?
We’d love you to show you the farm and animals whilst you are staying with us! If you’d like to see the animals or machinery within the buildings we’ll show you around to ensure you are safe however you are welcome to explore the field tracks and nature reserve at your leisure; you’ll find a farm map in the cottage. We ask that children are supervised at all times when away from the cottages and children’s play area.
  • Can we help to feed the animals?
You are welcome to watch the animals being fed and cared for however our farm is now highly mechanised so there isn’t an opportunity for guests to help. As above please ask and we’ll arrange a time for this to take place; we take health and safety very seriously and therefore need to ensure our staff know that you are present.
  • Can we watch the calves being born?
If you stay with us during March or April you may be able to see a calf being born in the calving shed. Cows value their privacy though and (unfortunately!) don’t calve in any set pattern so we can’t promise a newborn calf whilst you are there. There will be lots of baby calves in the fields from March through to September to look at and we occasionally have lambs too.
